Resisting the Veil of Privilege – Building Bridge Identities.
Summary:
Ann Ferguson’s ideas in the article/paper have links with philosophical issues and philosophers and looking at it from a different angle which was created by the multicultural, global and postcolonial feminisms that have been developing in the world in recent times. A large amount of feminist thinking in today’s society which don’t always agree with the commonly known philosophical and political issues. “Bridge Identity” is a political approach used by Northern Feminist researchers (funded by the government possibly) and they aim to help less privileged people in the Southern parts and economical factors, gender, racial and cultural inequalities all contribute to some of the problems they face.
Purpose:
Ferguson’s objective is to enlighten us of the feminist critiques and alternatives in modern development issues and to inform us of the basis of Bridge Identities and its effects.
Critique:
The southern people ignore their own non-universal starting points of knowledge and their own vested interests???
I’m not hugely interested in feminism etc so I won’t try and waffle my way round this one!
